Letizia Le Fur
Letizia Le Fur trained as a painter at the École des Beaux-Arts, graduating in 1998, until her teacher Valérie Belin pushed her toward photography. She has been making paintings with a camera ever since: mythological scenes in colors no one ever quite saw outdoors.
The honors have followed: the Leica/Alpine Prize in 2019, the MEP's "Fenêtres Ouvertes" Prize in 2020, the BNF's Grande Commande Photographique in 2022, and a nomination for the Niepce Prize the same year. Residencies took her to the Planches Contact festival in Deauville (2020), InCadaqués (2021) and the Festival Portrait(s) in Vichy (2023), with the BNP Foundation next, in 2024.
The work itself keeps circling Greek mythology: figures set down in a primordial world, and the question of where humanity fits in it. Two books, "Mythologies - Chap. I & II" (2021) and "Mythologies - Chap. III" (2022), collect the project so far.
The painting training never left. She isolates and amplifies color until a real landscape tips into somewhere else: a world suspended between fantasy and dream. Beauty, in her work, is a position taken deliberately, not a default.
Commercially she has shot for Belmond, Air France, Ruinart and Chanel, and for AD, The New York Times and Grazia. She has been a Leica ambassador since 2019.
Next: a solo exhibition at the French Institute in Madrid. And at the end of 2023 she won the "Paris Je t'aime x Photodays" Prize for « Small games », a series on Paris in echo of the Olympic Games, to be exhibited at the end of 2024.
