Why we chose this

A decade of riding the Staten Island Ferry and photographing the people on it, released twenty images at a time and only once the previous twenty had sold. Schmidt says he stopped meeting his subjects' eyes and learned to work from peripheral vision, which is why nobody in these frames is performing. Editions of ten apiece; eighty of the hundred images he planned have been minted so far.
