Unmoored Lounges

Furniture set down where there is no room for it. A mint-green leather armchair in front of a jet intake. Racing seats in cut snow, still lit as though they were indoors. A convertible that resolves into a scarlet sofa against a flat wall.

Water, polished metal and glass double the composition until inside and outside stop being separable. The impossible thing is stated as fact, never staged. Nobody in the frame reacts to it.

A pair of legs in mint-green trousers and brown brogues stands on the outside of a rounded cabin shell, mint-green above and below. Inside the opening, lit yellow, sits a mint leather armchair with cloud beyond the two oval windows either side of it.

The subject is the quiet absurdity of modern status: comfort that no longer needs a room, luxury that will not stay on the ground, and the wish to take a seat in a place with none to offer. The figures, where there are any, are occupants and witnesses at the same time.

How they are made

These are generated images, and they are not typed as prompts. Every frame is compiled from a written grammar: a setting, a light, a framing, a lens, and one or two stated impossibilities. The light is chosen before anything else, because it is what decides whether a picture reads as a photograph or as a render.

The engine will make a thousand more of these by morning, nearly all of them nothing. Generating is not the scarce part. Looking at them is, and the only work that counts here is what gets thrown away.

Frames, not editions. What becomes a print, at what size and in what number, has not been decided.

The rooms of the openings that did happen are next door, at the vernissage.
